February 2016

Praised be Jesus Christ!

Last January 20, 2016, part of the monastery’s enclosure wall collapsed.  There was already a previous damage to it caused by an SUV that crashed into our wall last May 27, 2015. The driver, a youth court employee, was reckoned to have suffered a stroke while driving.

We called for help and thick wood slabs were used to replace the damaged wall. Thank God that the repair was finished on the same day lest we run the risk of lawless elements entering our property. We live day after day entrusting ourselves under the mantle of protection of our Blessed Mother Mary.

During the bake sale last November,  sisters M.Jane, M.Cecile and LJ.Therese made Christmas cards and rosary bracelets for sale at the Gift Shop. This was an opportunity to have an additional means of support for the community this time of season as people come looking for gifts to give.

At the beginning of winter, the community was susceptible to getting sick due to the crazy temperature swings. It’s freezing in the morning, warm in mid-afternoon, cold in the evening and freezing until dawn.  Nevertheless, nature has brought us to different milieus where we could contemplate God's presence: seeing the snow flurries one day and then a downpour with tornado warning the following week.  But in between weather changes, the sun comes out and we can still enjoy the beauty of the sunrise and the sunset.

May you have a blessed and grace-filled Lenten season.

Loving prayers from your Carmelite Sisters of Jackson.
