Peggy Messick Hamilton, 84, went home to her Lord on Thursday, April 20, 2017. Peggy was born to Edward Bennett Messick and Anne Bordelon Messick  on October 14, 1932 in Marksville, La. She was a graduate of Louisiana State  University and worked as a teacher in TX, AL, and MS. She returned to school later in life and graduated from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She retired from UMC after 25 years as a cytotechnologist. Her devout faith acted as a light for her family and friends. She was a long time volunteer for Birthright of Jackson, where the founder encouraged volunteers to talk to God about the girls, not talk to the girls about God. She joined the Secular Order of St. Joseph a and St. Therese of Lisieux OCDS in 1958. With the encouragement of the order, she devoted much of her life to prayer. After 63 years of marriage, she is survived by her husband George G. Hamilton,MD and 6 children: George Carlisle Hamilton  (Lynn Hazen); Keith Edward Hamilton (Linda); Regina Hamilton Shurden (Darius); Frances Hamilton Mobley (Chuck); Charles Gregory Hamilton; Patricia Hamilton Artigues (Mike). She is also survived by grandchildren: Eric Hazen; Andrew Hamilton; Carolynn Hazen- Hamilton; Holly Catherine Chris Emily Hamilton; Mary,Laura, Zach, Rebekah, Caroline, Clare Shurden: Will and Mark Mobley; Jessica, Jack and Jewel Hinton; Kenny, Annie, Matthew, Patrick, Aaron and Sean Artigues. She is also survived by brother Alvin Messick (Carole) of Nevada. She is preceded in death by her sister Lillian Glodt; brother, Edward "Sonny" Messick; daughter Deborah Hamilton Hinton and granddaughter Kaitlyn Shurden. All services will occur at St. Paul Catholic Church, Flowood MS. Rosary is scheduled for Sunday, April 23 for 5:30 PM. All are invited to join the family for her favorite form of prayer. Visitation will follow until 8:00 PM. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, April 24 at 9:00AM and will be followed by a funeral mass at 10:00AM. Interment will be at Fannin Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Birthright of Jackson or Carmelite Monastery of Jackson.
